TODAY marks the launch of the Calne in Bloom Garden and Allotment Competition 2024.

This year's competition has a variety of categories so there is something for everyone to enter. This includes the ever popular residents garden categories and the allotment plot competition.

Other categories include community gardening groups, education, hospitality and retailers who can enter their projects and displays.

There is also a Special Award - Wildlife Friendly, environmentally Responsible and Sustainable Garden .

The ‘ Best in Show ’ is to receive the annual Rosemary Coombes Sustainability Cup .

The judges will be marking your entry using a wide criteria, which will include:

  • Impact of colour and design
  • Variety and use of plant
  • Condition, care and sustainability .
  • Originality and perceived effort .

There is also a Tree of the Year competition which is being run in partnership with Calne Community Nature Reserve. This is a fantastic way to pay celebrate the wonderful trees we have in Calne.

This year’s launch coincides with the start of the RHS National Gardening Week - each year, National Gardening Week (NGW) sees thousands of people sharing their love of gardening, hosting events and talking about what they’re growing on social media.

The week also raises awareness of the difference that gardens and gardening can make to the lives of everyone in the UK. It helps to inspire more people, particularly the next generation of gardeners, to experience the joy of growing and creating beautiful green spaces. 

You have until 31st May to enter. Judges will be visiting the week commencing 10th June. Calne Town Council will be confirming the date for the annual Awards Evening soon.
