One of the trustees of a Calne community group will be soaring through the skies in July to raise vital funds for the charity.
Heart of the Community Trustee, Ian Wakeham recently celebrated his 60th birthday and asked his wife and fellow trustee Mary, for a skydiving experience as a gift.
Ian will be completing the skydive on 27th July and hopes to raise much needed funds for the group.
The Wakehams are founding trustees of Heart of the Community, established in 2020, and cherish the sense of community they have created from their busy base at Coleman's Farm.
Heart of the Community provides a safe space for a relational support group. It provides a hot daily meal and a different activity each day.
Ian and Mary meet people from all walks of life, enriching their lives. All guests who visit the centre are local to Calne and some have been returning to the welcoming organisation for years.
Mary told us: "We want the hub to stay open in the long-term. We both work hard to apply for grant funding, but sometimes we need extra help.
"We provide a safe, inclusive space where friendships are formed and maintained, and people are sustained physically and emotionally. Our guests all have their own personal challenges, and while we cannot solve them, we can try to make their lives better."
Some of their guests echoed this, with a number of visitors sharing such sentiments.
'M' told us, "If I didn't come here, I don't know what I would do - this place is a godsend."
'E' affirmed this, saying, "The friendship I have found there is helping me through challenging times".
'O' added, "If I didn't have this place to come to, I would be sitting at home looking at the four walls."
