A Calne dog owner has been sent on a 'responsible dog owners course' by local police after failing to clean up their dog's poo.

Calne CCTV operators had spotted the owner failing to pick up after her dog in the town centre, on several occasions in recent weeks.

The dog was spotted fouling in Phelps Parade, High Street, outside Sainsbury's and in The Pippin. On each occasion the owner moved on leaving the poo behind.

CCTV footage provided clear images, which enabled PCSO Mark Cook to visit the home of the dog where it was agreed that the owner should take part in a responsible dog ownership course provided by the dog charity - Blue Cross.

PCSO Mark Cook said: "Calne Town Council CCTV raised this matter to us after they had been made aware of this issue from town council staff, who had been cleaning up the dog mess over recent weeks in locations where pedestrians and children would be walking.

“Understandably, it’s not a pleasant task up for council staff to clean this up, and even less so if a child or pedestrian were to step in it.

“We hope the action taken here shows we will act appropriately when evidence is presented to us.
“This is also a good example of Calne CCTV working in partnership with the Calne Neighbourhood Police Team to keep our town a nice place to live.”

Calne Police say that they have heard from Calne CCTV that the owner has since been seen cleaning up after her dog in the town centre.
