Free sports equipment is now available at The Rec Ground in Calne following the installation of a new BoxUp unit by Calne Town Council.

The system allows people to borrow items such as balls and other leisure equipment using a mobile app, making it easier for residents to get active without needing to bring their own.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are pleased to introduce a new BoxUp unit at The Rec Ground, making it easier for everyone to enjoy sport and outdoor activities locally.”

Users can access the equipment by downloading the free BoxUp app, creating an account and selecting the items they want to use. The locker then unlocks via the app, with equipment returned once finished.

The unit includes a range of equipment stored across six lockers, including ring toss, spikeball, coordination games, tennis equipment, Kanjam and rounders.

The equipment has been selected to appeal to all ages, while also introducing activities that some people may not have tried before.

The secure outdoor lockers are designed to be simple to use and support a range of activities depending on what is available on site.

BoxUp has been introduced in a number of locations to help remove barriers such as cost, storage and transport, while encouraging more people to take part in outdoor activity.

The installation forms part of ongoing efforts by the council to improve local facilities and promote healthier lifestyles in Calne.
