Fire crews have dealt with three separate fires involving grass and vegetation in Calne since Friday, with a warning for people to take extra care in the current dry conditions.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service say crews were called to Stanier Road on Friday (7 August) at around 3.10pm, where around 60m x 15m of grass verge was on fire.
The Calne crew attended and used two hose reel jets to put the fire out.
Crews were called to another location on Stanier Road yesterday (9 August) at around 3.55pm for a further grass verge fire. This was out when firefighters arrived, with the Chippenham crew using one hose reel jet to dampen the area down.
Then today (10 August), at around 2.26pm, the Calne crew was called to Oxford Road, where a hedge and shrubbery had caught fire. A Chippenham crew also attended and two hose reel jets were used.
The fire service said there is no specific cause recorded for any of the three incidents.
A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said the conditions are currently “tinder dry” and asked people to take extra care with cigarettes.
With roadside grass and vegetation so dry, people are being reminded not to throw cigarettes into grass or other vegetation and to make sure they are properly extinguished. People are also being urged not to leave bottles or other rubbish in dry grass, with discarded glass presenting a potential fire risk.
