A CALNE man has been sentenced at Swindon Magistrates Court for domestic abuse charges.

Hassan Uddin, 31, of Ratford in Calne, was found guilty of two counts of assault by beating, despite pleading not guilty.

The incidents occurred on 27th January and 28th May 2023. The May incident left his wife, Jamila beaten and abandoned in a forest, while the January charge related to Uddin throwing her phone and kicking her.

Uddin received a community order, requiring him to complete up to 25 rehabilitation activity days, 120 hours of unpaid work, and comply with a two-year restraining order. He was also fined £734.

Jamila Ali's marriage to Hassan Uddin lasted just over a year and a half, but the trauma she endured has had a lasting impact.

Jamila's ordeal included emotional and physical abuse, with her ex-husband exerting control over every aspect of her life. She was subjected to physical violence, verbal abuse, and isolation. The marriage ended a month after the forest incident, and Jamila is now seeking to raise awareness about domestic abuse.

Despite feeling a sense of justice, she's struggling to cope with the trauma. Jamila's message to others is clear: don't suffer in silence. She urges those experiencing similar situations to speak up, trust their instincts, and seek help.

Organisations like Helping Victims of Domestic Violence offer free help, advice and support to anyone needing it.

Jamila's story serves as a reminder that domestic abuse can happen to anyone, and it's never acceptable. By sharing her experience, she hopes to help others recognize the warning signs and find the courage to seek help.
