Calne Men’s Shed has received an award recognising its contribution to the local community at the Community First Awards 2026.
Chair Polly Morrow and Secretary Jeff Rawlings attended Community First’s AGM and awards ceremony on Wednesday evening, where they received the Community Project Funded through the Landfill Communities Fund Programme award from Wiltshire Council leader Councillor Ian Thorn.

The award celebrates community projects supported through the Landfill Communities Fund, which helps pay for improvements to community facilities and projects that benefit local people. Community First administers funding through the programme across Wiltshire and Swindon, helping community groups turn ideas into practical improvements.
For Calne Men’s Shed, the award was also an opportunity to hear about the work of other community groups and the difference they make to people’s lives.
Polly said: “We were honoured and felt humble when we heard everybody’s story. Thank you, Community First.”
Jeff added: “It was sobering to hear the other winners’ stories and the difficulties that the young people have overcome. Thank you for recognising the role our Shed plays in the Calne community.”
Based in Anchor Road, Calne Men’s Shed brings people together to share skills, work on practical projects and enjoy the company of others. It provides a welcoming space where people can get involved, learn from one another and build friendships.
The Shed has also benefited directly from the Landfill Communities Fund. In December 2025, it received a £3,000 grant from The Hills Group, administered by Community First, to help pay for solar panels at its workshop.
