Older people in Calne who are struggling with loneliness, rising living costs or everyday tasks are being encouraged to make use of a free support service run by Age UK Wiltshire.
The charity's Calne & Marlborough Community Support Service offers one-to-one support to help older residents remain independent, access financial support they may be entitled to and stay connected with their local community.
The free service provides home visits and personalised support for older people who may be feeling isolated or finding day-to-day life more difficult.
Community Connectors can help people check they are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to, access local social activities, obtain practical advice on home aids and adaptations, and get support with everyday tasks such as shopping or collecting prescriptions.
One resident who used the service said: "Thank you, the information that you gave me was really helpful and it's moved things along. We've managed to make progress on the housing situation."
Another was able to reduce one of their monthly household bills from £89 to £27 after receiving support.
The charity says the service is completely free, and referrals can be made by older people themselves or by friends, neighbours or family members who think someone could benefit.
