Plans for a 90-home development off Spitfire Road in Calne have been deferred by Wiltshire Council's Northern Area Planning Committee, with further changes requested to the scheme.
The application, submitted by Allison Homes, is for the reserved matters of the development and covers the detailed layout, appearance, landscaping, access, parking, open space and other aspects of the scheme.
The plans were previously amended and put out for a further period of public consultation in July, giving residents the opportunity to comment on the revised proposals.
The latest scheme includes 90 homes, including 27 affordable properties, together with public open space, a children's play area, landscaping, internal roads, footpaths, parking and sustainable drainage.
Following consideration of the application, councillors have asked for further work to be carried out before a decision is made.
Particular attention has been requested on the arrangement and density of the homes, especially around the edges of the development where it meets the surrounding countryside.
Changes have also been requested to the public open spaces, play area and drainage features, as well as the layout of roads and parking.
Councillors want the revised design to give greater consideration to pedestrians and reduce the visual impact of parked cars within the development.
The appearance and positioning of the homes will also be reviewed, including building groupings, roof designs, materials, boundaries and the way streets and views are framed.
The committee agreed to defer the application for two committee cycles to allow further discussions between planning officers and the developer and for a revised scheme to be prepared.
The application therefore remains undecided.
Outline planning permission for development of the site was granted following an appeal in 2025. The current application is concerned with the detailed design and layout of the development rather than whether the principle of housing on the site has been established.
Residents' comments submitted during the consultation will form part of the planning process as the revised proposals are considered.
