Calne is preparing to welcome visitors from our twin town of Eningen unter Achalm this week.
According to Calne Twinning, representatives from Eningen are due to arrive on Friday for a visit running from 8th to 12th May.
Calne Town Council has agreed a budget to support the visit, including a £1,500 contribution from Town Mayor Ian Thorn to help fund the welcome.
Calne Twinning also said the council has committed to including twinning in its future Five-Year Plan, with a dedicated budget for ongoing exchanges.
Plans for the visit are being coordinated by Jon Fisher, who previously took part in a visit to Eningen during his time as Mayor.
Local organisations and businesses are also supporting the visit. Lansdowne Strand has provided subsidised accommodation for four delegates as part of a community sponsorship initiative.
Meanwhile, a small exhibition about Eningen unter Achalm is on display at Calne Heritage Centre throughout the visit. Organised with support from Sue Boddington and the Heritage Centre, the display offers an insight into Calne’s twin town and its history.
