A Calne swimming club is celebrating regional success for several of its young athletes during a landmark year for the organisation.

Members of Calne Alpha Swim Club recently competed at the 2026 South West Junior and Senior Regional Championships, with swimmers achieving personal bests and major ranking improvements against strong competition from across the region.

The club, which celebrates its 50th anniversary on Saturday 18th July, said it was “soooooooo proud” of the team’s performances.

Coach Lyndsey praised the swimmers following the final weekend of competition.

She said: “Another great weekend for Calne Alpha age group swimmers, starting with Matilda’s 200 freestyle improving her long course personal best by eight seconds.

“Then on to Polly who swam a fantastic heat and ranked ninth, just missing out on the final.

“Matilda went on to swim the 100 breaststroke and improved her ranking from 22nd to 13th with a three-second personal best.

“On Sunday morning, Matilda finished up the weekend with an amazing eight-second personal best on her 200 breaststroke and an even more impressive improved ranking from 29th to 14th.”

To celebrate the swimmers’ achievements, the club organised a photoshoot featuring competitors proudly wearing their South West Regional Championship hoodies, joined by head coach Scott Garrett.

Calne Alpha Swim Club trains at Calne Community Campus and has been part of the town’s sporting community for five decades.

The club says it hopes the anniversary year will help shine a light on grassroots swimming in the town and inspire more young people to get involved in the sport.
