A familiar face to many across Calne has been recognised for reaching a major milestone in his policing career.
Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Mark Cook was presented with a Long Service Award at the Wiltshire Police Force Awards in Devizes earlier this month, recognising 20 years of commitment, professionalism and service to the community.
Over the past two decades, Mark has built strong relationships with local residents, schools and community groups, becoming a trusted and well-known figure across Calne and the surrounding villages. Throughout his career, he has supported vulnerable people, helped guide young people towards positive opportunities and provided reassurance to residents during difficult times.
His dedication has previously been recognised with a number of awards, including the Calne Civic Award in 2017 for his outstanding contribution to the welfare of the town, and the High Sheriff Award in 2023 for his service to the community.
Among the many highlights of his career have been helping to resolve neighbourhood concerns, working closely with schools and community groups, supporting victims of crime, and helping create safer communities through prevention, engagement and partnership working.
His local knowledge, approachable nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life have made him a valued member of the neighbourhood policing team, with many residents recognising him as a reassuring presence around the town.
Colleagues say Mark is always willing to listen and offer support, whether helping someone through a difficult situation, mentoring newer members of the team or simply taking the time to speak with residents while out on patrol.
Presenting the award, Wiltshire Police said Mark's commitment to community policing has made a lasting difference over the past 20 years, with the trust he has built and the relationships he has developed continuing to have a positive impact across the communities he serves.
