DWFRS has issued an update on the fire that started at the Compton Bassett landfill on Sunday evening.
The fire at the recycling centre, was first reported on Sunday 9th June at about 6.07pm. Crews from Calne, Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough and Corsham alongside a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett and sa support unit from Salisbury attended the fire which covered about 100m x 100m of landfill.
Residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed.
Crews remained on scene overnight on Sunday and throughout yesterday, as crews worked to stop the fire spread and reduce the smoke plume.
DWFRS issued the following update at 8am this morning - 11th June:
"Two crews have remained on scene throughout yesterday and overnight, continuing joint working to smother the fire. One hose reel jet has been in use to extinguish hotspots overnight. We hope to scale back further later on this afternoon."
