FOLLOWING the recent news that plans to bring a new Lidl store in Calne have finally been approved by Wiltshire Council, the discount supermarket has expressed their thanks to the public for their support.

Plans to bring a new Lidl store to Calne were granted approval by Wiltshire Council on 21st February after many months of waiting for a decision to be made.

This marked the second time that Wiltshire Council has supported Lidl’s proposals following delays resulting from a legal challenge by Tesco.

Lidl's application had overwhelming public support, with over 4000 residents expressing their support for a new Lidl store in Calne.

The store location will be off Oxford Road and Beversbrook Road and will feature the discounter’s popular in-store bakery, the much-loved Middle of Lidl, and customer facilities, including toilets with baby-changing facilities.

Outside, there will be ample parking for both cars and bicycles, as well as rapid electric vehicle charging points, while solar panels on the roof will help power the store.

This multi-million-pound investment will create around 40 new jobs, further strengthening the local economy. Lidl colleagues will benefit from its industry-leading pay rates, which recently increased as part of its commitment to supporting colleagues.

Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “It is great that Wiltshire Council has approved our plans to bring a Lidl to Calne once again. The continued support from those in the area has been incredible, and we want to thank everyone who has stood by us throughout this journey. This new store will provide local shoppers with access to our high-quality, affordable products while also creating new jobs. We know that the delays have been frustrating, but we hope we can now move forward and bring our plans to life.”
