EMERGENCY services were called to the scene of a RTC in Calne yesterday after the driver of a vehicle is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest at the wheel.

The incident happened at about 4.40pm yesterday evening, 24th February in Oxford Road.

Police and ambulance services attended the scene and the driver was taken by ambulance to hospital where his condition has been described as serious.

Out of respect for the man involved and his family, we will not be releasing further details until we have consent to do so.

UPDATE: The following information has since been generally shared. The driver of the vehicle involved in the emergency was Cllr Tom Rounds who had just left The Dog & Partridge pub when he suffered a heart attack at the wheel and crashed into a tree. He was resuscitated at the scene. Since then Cllr Rounds has been under the care of the  Bristol Heart Institue where he has reportedly recently had a triple bypass and is now convalescing - we wish him a speedy recovery.
