A man is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a police pursuit through the Calne area in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 25th February.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle after concerns were raised about the manner of driving along the A4 from Chippenham towards Calne, before it continued onto the A342 Old Derry Hill.
The driver failed to stop and continued through Derry Hill before rejoining the A4. Police say the vehicle was driven at excess speed and, at times, on the wrong side of the road and roundabouts.
The pursuit continued into Calne. The vehicle was stung near the A3102 bypass but carried on before eventually coming to a stop in Lickhill Road.
A man was seen to decamp from the vehicle and run from the scene. Officers pursued him on foot but lost sight of him.
Police later arrested a man in his 40s at an address in Calne on suspicion of failing to stop, failing to provide details and dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning.
Anyone who witnessed the pursuit is asked to call 101 and quote crime reference number 54260023169.
