A minute's silence in honour of Cllr Tony Trotman was held in the council chamber at Trowbridge County Hall this week.

Cllr Trotman served Calne Town Council for over 30 years and was the Calne Town Mayor four times.  He had represented Calne Chilvester and Abberd on Wiltshire Council since 2009 and was the chair of the Northern Area Planning Committee. He had also been a member of Wiltshire County Council and North Wiltshire District Council.

Cllr Trotman died suddenly at home on 30th November 2023, aged 76. He had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days previously. A celebration of his life was held at St Mary's Church, Calne on 21st December.

At the Strategic Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, chair - Cllr Howard Greenam paid tribute to Cllr Trotman saying: "We shared an interesting and unsual dynamic in that I was deputy to his chair of the Northern Area Planning Committee and he was deputy to my chair of this committee, so of course, we worked very closely together.

"His expertise, his brilliance and his knowledge are a sad loss and will be to all of us."

Councillors then stood for a minute's silence.
