MOTORISTS are reporting delays of up to two hours to make their way from Chippenham to Calne currently as roadworks in Pewsham are having a massive impact on traffic in both directions.
The resurfacing works on the A4 from Pewsham roundabout to the junction with the A342, commenced at 11.40am today, 24th April.
Traffic is being controlled by stop go boards and many motorists are reporting that they have experienced long delays from Avenue La Fleche and past Stanley Park with very little traffic getting through the system at a time.
The AA are reporting: 'Queueing traffic on A4 London Road both ways near The Car Dealerships. In the construction area. Affecting buses.'
Stagecoach buses are currently showing varied delays of up to 30 minutes on their services.
UPDATE AT 4PM: The works have now been completed and the road is running as usual. There will be additional work on 18th to 20th May when delays will be expected again.
Contractors have explained that works had to be completed in the early hours of the afternoon to allow for a shorter 'curing time'.
