THERE are long delays and heavy traffic throughout Calne today with a set of traffic lights on New Road leading to traffic building up as far as Curzon Park and backed up on Silver Street and London Road at the moment.

The lights are for Wessex Water to carry out repairs to a domestic customer leak.

The works have commenced today, 29th April and have a current schedule of being in place until the 2nd May although this may not be an accurate estimate as the works may be completed sooner than that.

Traffic is being controlled by two way signals. With the current closure of Church Street also in place, the town is already heavily congested as of 11am.

Several cars are turning around to get out of the queues - one motorists told Calne News, it had taken them over half an hour to get from Silver Street to Curzon Street.

Stagecoach buses are currently showing varied delays of up to 20 minutes on their services.
