Calne Town Council has confirmed that planning permission has now been granted for a brand-new play area at The Recreation Ground — a major milestone in plans to improve local facilities for families.
In a statement, the council said that following a period of community consultation and detailed planning, construction work is due to begin on Monday, 13th October 2025, with the project expected to be completed by mid-January 2026.
The council will be working in partnership with Proludic, a company with extensive experience in designing outdoor play and fitness spaces. The aim, they said, is to create a modern, inclusive and engaging play area that will serve Calne’s children and families for years to come.
To allow the works to take place safely, the existing play area will be closed and fenced off for the duration of the installation. During this period, there will be no play provision available on-site. The council thanked residents for their patience and understanding while the transformation is carried out.
Once finished, the new play area will form part of wider plans to make The Recreation Ground a “destination park” for the town - offering a space where the community can come together to play, exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
Further updates on the project, including details on the official opening, will be shared by Calne Town Council as work progresses.
