More than 1,400 people have now signed a petition calling for a Post Office to remain in Calne town centre.
The petition, organised by Calne Labour Party, has attracted 1,439 signatures in just over a week and was presented to Chippenham MP Sarah Gibson on Wednesday.
The campaign follows the announcement that the Post Office inside Morrisons Daily in Phelps Parade will close on 8th August when the store ceases trading.
Sharing an update on social media after meeting campaigners, Sarah Gibson said she had discussed how they could work together to secure the future of the service.
She said: "It was good to discuss how we can work together on its future and I want to thank everyone who has signed and supported the petition. It's a fantastic way of keeping this issue front and centre."
The MP also shared correspondence from Post Office Ltd, which confirmed it had received a number of enquiries from potential operators after advertising for someone to run a replacement branch.
In a letter dated 24th July, the Post Office said it was now assessing those enquiries and hoped to begin progressing applications shortly. However, it warned that appointing a new operator and fitting out a new branch can typically take up to six months, meaning there is likely to be a gap in service after the current branch closes.
Town councillor Celia Stevens said the response to the petition showed how important the Post Office is to local residents.
She said: "Calne residents were queuing to sign this petition. This shows it's a highly valued service that is critical to many people here. All parties need to proactively work to ensure that a central post office, with experienced staff and all the current services, is retained in the centre of Calne."
Councillor Tara Fisher added: "The proposed closure of the Post Office is another blow to Calne residents who already face a lack of services. With so many local people signing this petition, our voices must be heard.
"We're calling on the Post Office to do everything possible to reopen a Post Office branch in Calne town centre as soon as possible. This petition highlights the strength of support for it in the town."
The Post Office has previously confirmed it is working to restore services in Calne as quickly as possible, but says any new operator must meet operational, financial and security requirements before a branch can reopen.
