Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was reportedly followed before being grabbed by an unknown man in Calne.

The incident happened on Swaddon Street at around 11.15pm on Tuesday 18th August.

Police said the woman was fortunately able to get away from the man.

The appeal follows a post shared on social media by the woman's mother, who said her daughter was walking home from work when she was approached by a young man wearing a tracksuit and balaclava, about 5ft 3inches and possibly in his teens.

According to the mother's account, the man followed her daughter before grabbing hold of her arm and pulling at her. She said he also touched her body and pulled at her belt while repeatedly saying "which one, which one?"

The woman was eventually able to get away when she moved towards an area where car headlights were shining on them, according to her mother.

The mother said two men who were sitting outside on Stokes Croft may have seen the woman and the man following her. She also appealed for a woman who passed by and saw her daughter crying and frightened to come forward if she witnessed anything.

Wiltshire Police have now confirmed that the incident was reported and are asking anyone who witnessed it, or who has information that could help their investigation, to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting reference 54260100603.

Wiltshire Police have also urged anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
