An unplanned power cut affecting parts of the Calne area has caused disruption to homes, businesses and schools this morning.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) say engineers are working to restore the power cut which happened at 11.05am but is currently not expected to be resolved before 2pm.

The power cut is affecting a number of postcodes including: SN11 0AT, SN11 0LF, SN11 0QX, SN11 8DA, SN11 8JL, SN11 8JP, SN11 8JR, SN11 8JS, SN11 8JT, SN11 8JU, SN11 8JX, SN11 8JY, SN11 8JZ, SN11 8TX and SN11 8UA.

Among those affected is Kingsbury Green Academy, which has contacted parents and carers to say they need to send pupils home.

The school says it cannot operate for an extended period without electricity because it relies on an electric water pump and is unable to provide lunches due to the outage. Phone lines and internet services have also been affected.

Students sitting exams will remain in school, but all other pupils are being sent home.

Blackland Health Club has also announced it has had to close until power is restored.

SSEN says engineers are currently working to restore supplies.
