SOME residents living in the Braemor Road and Corfe Cresent area of Calne are currently without power following a fire at a residential property.

Just after 9.30am today, 1st April, emergency services responded to reports of a fire in Corfe Cresent.

Fire crews, ambulances, police and Scottish and Southern attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service has given the following update: "On arrival, crews found a fire on the fence of the property that had spread to the electrical consumer unit.

"Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and a covering jet to extinguish. We worked with the electric and gas companies to make the scene safe."

One post on social media said: "My sisters next door neighbour's house had something explode!..catching my sisters house on fire! She was a super hero and got her disabled daughter and herself out in time. "

Homeowner Melanie told Calne News: "The flames were huge outside my front door. It was terrifying for my daughter and me."

People living in the vicinity have said investigations are ongoing for a possible gas leak -  a resident commented: "It’s the house next door to me. Possible gas leak causing a small fire. It’s out now but they are checking for gas leaks."

The properties involved remain cordoned off with occupants unable to return to their homes while investigations are ongoing.

Scottish and Southern say engineers are on site and they aim to restore power by 3pm.
