Updated plans have been submitted to Wiltshire Council for the redevelopment of the former Calne Central building in Church Street.

The application for 20 Church Street, proposes alterations and refurbishment of the existing Class E commercial building, including subdividing it into several smaller commercial units.

The building, which most recently housed Calne Central, and before that HM Foam, has had a number of different uses and remains a well-known spot on Church Street.

Local resident Danny T Silvers shared his memories of the site, saying: “I remember it as Dixons and then Draper’s Corner, which was a great little shopping arcade with a nice little cafe and a music shop upstairs called Off the Track.”

The latest plans revise a scheme previously approved under application 20/07270/FUL, which established the principle of subdividing the building to create multiple commercial units and supported external alterations aimed at improving the building’s contribution to the vitality and viability of the town centre.

Earlier proposals for the site included the creation of a shopping arcade and café.

The new application includes reinstating a traditional shopfront, creating new window openings and wider refurbishment works. Updated drawings also show an open café area space to the rear of the building.

The application has been registered under reference PL/2026/01475 and is currently open for public comment.

Residents can view the full plans and submit feedback through the council’s planning portal.

The property is being marketed by Stibbard Property Marlborough and rents on the retail units range from £229 to £499pcm and the Cafe unit at £801pcm.
