Roadworks to renew traffic lights on the A4 The Strand in Calne have reached a major milestone, with civil engineering works due to be completed today (Friday 19th June).

According to Cllr Sam Pearce-Kearney, the temporary traffic management layout will remain in place over the weekend while final preparations are made to bring the new signals into operation.

Contractors are expected to return to the site on Monday afternoon to commission the new traffic lights, after which the permanent signals could be switched on and the temporary signals removed.

Cllr Pearce-Kearney said the progress was "good news" for the project, which has caused disruption for motorists travelling through the town in recent months.

He thanked council officers and contractors involved in the scheme, saying the project had been completed on time despite a number of challenges and delays along the way.

A further update is expected once the new traffic lights have been commissioned.
