Calne residents looking for ways to cut their energy bills and keep their homes warm were able to get advice directly from energy specialists at Calne Town Hall on Saturday 10th October.

Organised by Chippenham MP Sarah Gibson in partnership with Sustainable Calne, Warm Homes, Lower Bills brought together energy advice organisations, housing providers and local groups to answer questions about heating homes more efficiently and finding help with energy costs.

Among those attending were Warm & Safe Wiltshire, the Centre for Sustainable Energy, National Energy Action, GreenSquare, Luthmore and Home-Start North Wiltshire.

Visitors had the chance to talk through ways to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run, from tackling draughts and improving insulation to exploring different heating options. Advice was tailored to a range of circumstances, including people renting their homes and those looking at longer-term improvements.

There were also practical activities, including making draught excluders, alongside a free café and refreshments.

Sarah Gibson said: “It was absolutely wonderful to see so many people coming together in Calne, having conversations, asking questions and finding out what they can do to make their homes warmer and their energy bills more manageable.

“With the cost of living continuing to put pressure on households, it is so important that people have access to practical, trustworthy advice. What I particularly loved about the day was that there was something for everyone, whether that was a simple, low-cost change or exploring bigger improvements to their home.

“I am incredibly grateful to Sustainable Calne, all the organisations who joined us and the volunteers who helped make the day such a success. Events like this show just how much we can achieve when we bring people and expertise together, and I hope everyone who attended came away with ideas and information that will make a real difference.”

Jenny Joyce, chair of Sustainable Calne, said: “It was lovely to see so many people coming along wanting to make changes to their homes. There are so many people out there with the knowledge and experience to help, and it was great to bring them all together in one place.

“What made the day so good was that there was advice for everyone, from little changes that cost next to nothing to bigger improvements that can make a real difference. Sometimes it is just about knowing where to start and who to ask, and that is exactly what we wanted this event to help people with.”
