WILTSHIRE Road Policing has had a busy morning in Calne today, 24th April.

Early this morning, as everyone was making their way to work and school, a unit clocked a Mercedes driving at 100mph on the A4 at Cherhill. A police stop saw the car skid to a halt and the driver told officers they needed the toilet.

On London Road, officers stopped a skip lorry when they spotted the driver had 'skipped' putting on their seatbelt.

Shortly after this, they stopped a black Honda moped after the rider was recognised as a repeat offender for riding without L plates.

On Oxford Road police stopped a brown Range Rover heading into the town centre by the garage, due to dark window tints. The driver insisted they had recently bought car insurance but no such policy was found. On top of that, one of the tyres had exposed cords and the vehicle wasn't taxed. Police seized the vehicle.

A unit noticed a tractor loaded with several tonne bags of seed opted to go cross-country rather than follow the police car they found themselves behind. Officers followed the tractor into a field and stopped the vehicle. The load was found to be insecure and the driver was issued with a traffic offence report.

Meanwhile, a unit has been on Sandpit Road this morning carrying out speed checks following reports from concerned residents.
