Around 50 Year 8 pupils from Kingsbury Green Academy have been given the opportunity to experience the workplace through a partnership with Calne Community Campus.

The pupils took part in work experience placements over four separate days, gaining an insight into careers in the sports and leisure sector while developing key employability skills.

During their time at the Campus, they learned about a range of roles, including sports coaching, swimming lessons, lifeguarding, marketing, reception and administration. They also worked alongside staff to develop skills such as communication, teamwork and professionalism.

The placements form part of Kingsbury Green Academy's Modern Work Experience Programme, which gives pupils a range of employer encounters throughout their time at school. Students were selected based on their interests and career aspirations identified through the school's Future Skills Questionnaire, helping to match them with relevant experiences.

The programme has already attracted wider interest, with the Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub now exploring whether similar partnerships could be introduced at leisure centres across the county.

Cath Young, Careers Lead at Kingsbury Green Academy, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Calne Community Campus for supporting our students and helping bring the world of work to life.

"Experiences like this allow young people to explore different career pathways, develop essential skills and gain confidence in their future ambitions.

"We are delighted that around 50 students have benefited from this opportunity and are thrilled that the success of the programme is now being recognised more widely. We look forward to continuing and growing this valuable partnership."

The Academy also thanked Colin Larrigan and the team at Calne Community Campus for their support in helping inspire the next generation through the initiative.
