Saint Edmund’s Catholic Primary School in Calne has been recognised for the progress it is making across its school improvement priorities, with all five areas rated as being on track in its latest review.
The review was carried out through the Department for Education’s RISE programme, with all five improvement priorities rated Green. This means the work being carried out is considered to be on track and the school is expected to meet its short and longer-term objectives.
The review found clear approaches to reading, writing and maths, with early signs of improved outcomes in reading, particularly among Year 5 pupils.
Quality assurance work has also identified improvements in classroom practice, while the school’s approach to behaviour was found to be helping to create a positive learning environment.
Improvements were noted at key points around the school, including playtimes and transitions. The review found that pupils understand what is expected of them and feel positive and valued, while staff are confident in managing behaviour and maintaining high expectations.
The school is also continuing to work on attendance, with regular monitoring and action where needed. The review found that active participation in lessons has improved.
Further work is planned for the new academic year, including developing the curriculum, assessment and inclusion, as well as strengthening engagement with families.
A spokesperson for Saint Edmund’s said: “We are really pleased that the progress being made at Saint Edmund’s has been recognised through the RISE review.
“Our pupils are enjoying their learning and responding well to the expectations we have in place across the school. We are looking forward to building on this work during the year ahead and continuing to provide the very best opportunities for every child at Saint Edmund’s.”
