The end of the school year was celebrated in song as the Major Minors Children's Choir welcomed family and friends to its Summer Concert at Southwell Hall.
The performance brought together members of the choir with Upper IV pupils from St Mary's Calne, who have spent the summer term rehearsing together as part of a community music initiative. Alongside sharing repertoire, the children also enjoyed spending time together during breaks, forming new friendships ahead of the concert.
The programme featured a mixture of contemporary choral music alongside well-loved songs from Disney films and Hollywood favourites. Inspired by the recent FIFA World Cup, the concert even included a hydration break to help keep the young performers refreshed throughout the afternoon.
Year 6 pupil Martha particularly enjoyed performing Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins and A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman.
"I even got to introduce one of the songs to the audience, which was fun. I really loved having the opportunity to sing with the girls from St Mary's - including girls in my new company," she said.
Upper IV pupil Flo described taking part as "a fun and rewarding experience", praising Musical Director Mrs Bethan Dudley Fryar for inspiring the young singers throughout the term and saying she hoped there would be more opportunities for pupils of different ages to work together.
The Major Minors Children's Choir is open to boys and girls in Years 2 to 6 from St Margaret's Prep and primary schools in and around Calne. The choir is a joint initiative between St Mary's Calne and St Margaret's Prep, giving children the opportunity to develop their musical skills while building friendships with pupils from across the local community.
