Fancy meeting some new people without the awkwardness of having to walk into a room and make conversation with complete strangers?
A new social club which launched in Derry Hill this summer is offering adults the chance to do just that, with The Curious Club returning to the Lansdowne Arms in September.
The idea is simple: bring together people who enjoy meeting others and having good conversations, with a host helping people settle in and making introductions, particularly for those who have arrived on their own.
Rather than being a traditional club, class or organised activity, The Curious Club is centred around conversation. People sit together, meet others they may not normally cross paths with and see where the conversation takes them.
There is no need to prepare anything beforehand, and organisers say there is no expectation for attendees to have specialist knowledge or to come armed with something fascinating to say.
Most people attend alone, and there is no pressure to be particularly outgoing. The aim is simply to provide a relaxed opportunity for adults to get out, meet people and spend a couple of hours in good company.
The club's first two gatherings in Derry Hill took place earlier this summer, with the next event now planned for Sunday, 6th September, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Tickets cost £8 per person and must be booked in advance.
The Curious Club is open to adults aged 18 and over, with no upper age limit.
Organisers describe the idea simply as: “No experts. No lectures. No pressure. Just curious people and good company.”
