Looking for something to do this weekend? From one of Calne's biggest annual events and an action-packed Civil War re-enactment to live music, reggae, and a relaxed afternoon of chess in the park, there's plenty happening in and around Calne over the next few days. Whether you're planning a family day out or a night out with friends, here's our pick of some of the highlights.
Live Music at The Dog House
The Dog House hosts another evening of live music on Friday as JP Oldfield returns to the stage following a popular first performance at the venue. Known for blending Southern Gothic blues with jazz influences and a contemporary edge, JP will begin performing from 7.30pm. Visitors can also enjoy authentic wood-fired pizzas from Pizziamo, with Salvatore serving fresh Italian pizzas from 6pm, making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy great food, live music and a relaxed Friday evening in Calne.
Reggae Night at The Ruze
Head to The Ruze in Chippenham on Friday, 24th July for a night of live reggae music with Johnny2Bad, supported by Charlie Carter. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm, with advance tickets priced at £15 (£20 on the door). Alongside an evening of classic reggae tunes, the venue will also be serving a selection of themed cocktails, including a One Love Rum Punch, Red Stripe Reggae Mule and Jah Garden Mojito. Whether you're a lifelong reggae fan or simply fancy a summer night out with friends, it's set to be an evening full of great music and Caribbean-inspired vibes.
Calne Bike Meet
One of Calne's biggest annual events returns on Saturday, 25th July as thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from across the UK descend on the town for Calne Bike Meet. Running from 8am until 6pm, the free event features hundreds of motorcycles, live music on the Howard Marshall Stage, more than 70 trade and charity stalls, street food from around the world and entertainment throughout the day. This year's event will also be dedicated to the memory of Alex, the husband of committee member and stage organiser Sammi, who tragically died in a motorcycle collision last weekend. At 5pm, following the Ride Out's return to the town centre, visitors and riders will be invited to observe a minute's silence before motorcycles across the town fire up their engines in a moving tribute. Visitors should also be aware that temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in place around the town centre throughout the day.
Battle of Chippenham Re-Enactment
Step back in time on Saturday, 25th July as the Battle of Chippenham Re-Enactment brings history to life. Organised by the English Civil War Society in partnership with Chippenham Town Council, the free event will see around 400 re-enactors, complete with cannon, cavalry and horses, recreate the dramatic events of the summer of 1643. Visitors can explore an authentic 17th-century encampment, meet townsfolk, and watch demonstrations from musketeers, pikemen, cavalry and artillery throughout the day. Running from 8am to 5pm, it's a fascinating day out for history enthusiasts and families alike. Photo Chippenham Town Council.
