There’s plenty going on in and around Calne this weekend, with a summer visit from Father Christmas, live music, family activities, outdoor events and plenty of chances to get out and about. From Santa’s rather unusual summer job in Calne to vintage vehicles in Bromham and a family day at the Wiltshire Air Ambulance base, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.
Santa’s Summer Job – Friday 21st August
Father Christmas will be making a rather unusual summer appearance in Calne on Friday, 21 August, as part of Calne Wordfest. Santa’s Summer Job will see him riding around Calne, telling stories and eating ice cream. The free event will take place at three locations, with three performances planned.
Luke Gittins and George Wilding at The Ruze – Friday 21st August
Live music comes to The Ruze in Chippenham on Friday, 21 August, with co-headliners Luke Gittins and George Wilding, supported by Ayle. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm and the event is for ages 16 and over. Advance tickets are £10, or £15 on the door.

Bat & Moth Evening – Friday 21st August
Nature lovers can head to Baydons Meadow in Chippenham on Friday 21st August for a free evening exploring the area’s bats and moths. The event starts at 8.30pm and will include a talk about the wildlife found at the meadow, followed by the chance to look for bats and moths.
Outdoor Wall Climbing at Bowood – Friday 21st August
Children can have a go at outdoor wall climbing at Bowood House & Gardens on Friday 21st August. The portable climbing wall will be supervised by trained instructors, giving youngsters the chance to try something different during the summer holidays. Places are limited.
The Dog House – Friday 21st August
There will be live music at The Dog House in Calne on Friday 21st August, with an open mic night giving local performers the chance to take to the stage. It’s a chance to enjoy an evening of live music in the town.
Bromham Vintage Vehicle Meet – Saturday 22 August
Vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts can head to Bromham Community Hub on Saturday, 22 August, for the Bromham Vintage Vehicle Meet. Running from 11am to 4pm, the event welcomes vintage, classic and interesting cars, tractors, commercial vehicles, bikes and steam vehicles. There is no need to book, although a suggested £5 donation per vehicle will go towards Bromham Community Hub. There will also be food and drink, stalls and children's activities.
Eden Bridge Festival – Saturday 22nd August
Eden Bridge Festival takes place at Wick Bridge Farm in Bremhill on Saturday 22nd August. The free Christian music and community festival will feature live music, food, creative activities and worship, with something for visitors of all ages.
Yelde Hall Summer Opening – Saturday 22nd August
Chippenham’s historic Yelde Hall will be open to visitors on Saturday 22nd August from 10.30am to 1.30pm, with free entry. Visitors can explore the historic building and meet characters from Chippenham’s past.
Chippenham Town Walk – Saturday 22nd August
A free guided town walk will take place in Chippenham on Saturday 22nd August, starting at the Buttercross at 2pm. The walk lasts around 40 minutes and explores some of the history of the town. Booking is required.
Summer at the Base – Saturday 22nd August
Wiltshire Air Ambulance is opening the doors to its operational airbase on Saturday 22nd August for Summer at the Base, from 12pm to 4pm. The family event will include a bouncy castle, inflatable assault course, giant games and circus skills, as well as the chance to meet the charity’s mascots, pilot Marsha and paramedic Wilber. Visitors can also watch CPR demonstrations, have a go at the tombola, browse stalls and merchandise, and enjoy food, drinks, ice cream and a fully licensed bar. The event takes place on the front lawn of the airbase, with views of the helipad and helicopter subject to lifesaving operations.
Honey Badger at The Ruze – Saturday 22 August
Honey Badger will be taking to the stage at The Ruze in Chippenham on Saturday, 22 August, with support from Never Sound and Echo Culture. The gig is for ages 16 and over, with doors and the bar opening at 6.30pm. Advance tickets are £15, with tickets on the door priced at £18.
