Up to 500 classic and historic vehicles are expected to head to Calne next month as the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum hosts a weekend celebrating more than a century of motoring history.

The event takes place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July, with the museum's 23rd Annual Classic Vehicle Show forming the centrepiece of the weekend.

Proceedings begin on Saturday with the museum's popular Scenic Road Run. Gates open at 3pm before the first vehicles set off at 4pm on a 40-mile route through the Wiltshire countryside.

Up to 30 classic vehicles are expected to take part. Drivers will receive a route guide and observational quiz before returning to the museum for a barbecue and refreshments.

The main show takes place on Sunday 12th July. Exhibitors can access the site from 8am, with the event opening to the public at 10am.

Visitors will be able to admire up to 500 vehicles spanning more than a century of motoring history, from veteran and vintage vehicles to classic cars, motorcycles, sports cars and modern classics.

Many of the owners will be on hand throughout the day to share the stories behind their vehicles, while visitors can also explore the museum's collection.

There will be live music throughout the day, along with refreshments from Padfield Porkies, the museum's volunteer-run tea room and Fat Sam's Ice Cream Van.

At 3pm, Calne Mayor Tim Havenith will draw the winning ticket in the museum's annual raffle car competition.

This year's prize is a 1996 Rover Mini Sprite, which has spent the past year helping to raise funds for the museum's charitable work.

Immediately after the draw, the museum will unveil its next raffle vehicle, giving visitors the first chance to see the new prize and buy tickets.

Pre-booked exhibitors receive free entry for the driver and one passenger and can purchase discounted admission to the museum collection on presentation of their exhibitor pass.

General admission tickets will be available on the gate and include access to the museum collection.

The Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum, on Stockley Lane, is a registered charity and all proceeds from the weekend help support its work preserving Britain's motoring heritage.
