Dear Editor,

I would like to correct an error in a Lib Dem leaflet which was delivered in Calne in December and January.
Alongside a picture of Sarah Gibson MP, and myself the text reads “Calne Cllr Robert MacNaughton has pushed the Conservative Council to clean up our rivers”. This is untrue.

When I first had the idea of proposing a motion to Wiltshire Council demanding the water companies take their sewage out of Wiltshire's rivers, I first spoke to Richard Clewer, the Conservative leader of the Council.

He was very supportive, and suggested I find a Conservative member to second the motion. I did. I asked Ashley O’Neill, who is a friend, a member of the Cabinet and who lives in Calne to second the motion. Ashley was very helpful, and suggested a few amendments to the original motion.

When I proposed the motion to Wiltshire Council last October, it passed unanimously because all the parties on the Council agreed to work together. Unfortunately this is a rare event.

I am grateful to both Ashley and Richard for their help and support in getting the Sewage Motion passed by Wiltshire Council.

Cllr Robert MacNaughton
