A local couple are hoping to change perceptions of the modified car scene after launching a series of community car meets that are attracting hundreds of visitors to Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum.
Jamie and Jess founded DRIVEN: Cars and Coffee after visiting the museum for the first time last September. Surprised by the size of the collection, they wanted to help introduce more people to the museum while creating a welcoming space for vehicle enthusiasts to meet.
The pair say they were also keen to challenge the misconception that young people with modified cars are all linked to anti-social behaviour.
While acknowledging that a small minority are responsible for burnouts, excessive noise and other nuisance driving, they say the vast majority simply enjoy working on their vehicles and sharing their passion with others.
Their monthly coffee mornings welcome everything from modified cars and classics to motorcycles, giving people the chance to meet friends, enjoy refreshments and explore the museum and its grounds.
The events have proved increasingly popular, with more than 700 people attending last month's meet. Visitors travelled from across the country, including from as far away as Liverpool.
Jamie and Jess said they wanted to create an event where younger and older generations could come together over a shared interest in vehicles, whether they owned one or simply enjoyed looking at them.
The group's next event will be a special evening meet at Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum on Saturday, 5th September, from 4pm to 7pm. Entry is free, with tickets available through DRIVEN's Facebook and Instagram pages.
