Looking for something to do this weekend? From live music and food festivals to afternoon tea and community events, there’s plenty happening in and around Calne over the next few days. Here’s our pick of some of the highlights.
Mad Miller & Notes From Underground
The Ruze in Chippenham is hosting live music on Friday evening as Mad Miller & Notes From Underground take to the stage. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm, with the event open to those aged 16 and over. Tickets are £12 in advance or £15 on the door.
Calne Eat Festival
Calne town centre will be filled with the sights, smells and sounds of local food and drink on Saturday as the Calne Eat returns for its second year. More than 75 makers, growers and producers will be taking part, with everything from cheese, cider and patisserie to fresh oysters, spirits, meat and street food on offer. There will also be free entertainment and live music, with plenty of seating available and level access throughout the festival. Dogs are welcome too, with water bowls provided for four-legged visitors. The festival is being supported by Calne Town Council, which has also arranged a programme of community stalls, activities and entertainment on The Wharf. Visitors can find out more about local groups including Kindness in Calne, Calne Men’s Shed, Craftstree, Pride and the Town Council, while Clare’s Circus and Spring-a-Lings will provide entertainment and outdoor games will be available. There’s also the chance to take part in ‘Splash the Mayor’, with three throws for £2 giving visitors the opportunity to soak the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Calne Business Fair
Also taking place at Calne Town Hall on Saturday is the Calne Business Fair, giving visitors the chance to find out more about the town’s thriving business community. The event gets underway from 10am.
Afternoon Tea With Swing & Sweet Ballads
For something a little more leisurely, Bowood will host an Afternoon Tea with Swing & Sweet Ballads on Sunday afternoon. Guests can enjoy finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and preserves and a selection of sweet treats while listening to live music from vintage singer Kitty Mazinsky. The event takes place in the Kerry Suite, with sittings from 1.30pm. Places are limited and advance booking is required.
Yatesbury Pop-Up Café
The Yatesbury Pop-Up Café returns on Sunday afternoon, offering visitors the chance to enjoy homemade cakes, a cuppa or a cream tea while supporting the village hall. The café will be open from 2pm to 5pm, with gluten-free and vegan options available. Funds raised help support the upkeep of Yatesbury Village Hall and community activities held there. The café is off the A4 between Cherhill and Beckhampton and will be signposted on the day. Visitors are asked to bring cash as local internet service is currently limited.
