There’s plenty happening in and around Calne this weekend, with live music, an intergenerational festival, history, food and a few rather different nights out on offer. From the Calne Connection Festival and events at Bowood to live bands at The Ruze and a vintage tea room in Compton Bassett, there’s plenty to choose from.
Imposters Dining Experience – Friday 18th September
There's an unusual night out at Bowood Hotel on Friday, with the Imposters Dining Experience, an interactive murder mystery-style evening combining dinner with a game of deception and secrets.
Grassroots Band Night At The Ruze – Friday 18th September
For those looking for live music, The Ruze in Chippenham is hosting its Grassroots Band Night on Friday evening.
The line-up features Pebble Daisy, Adders and Van Stadens, with doors and the bar opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are £6.
Calne Connection Festival – Saturday 19th September
Calne Town Hall will host the Calne Connection Festival on Saturday, bringing people of different generations together for a day of activities, creativity and shared skills.
The organisers describe it as an intergenerational celebration, with the aim of giving people of all ages the chance to connect, try something new, share skills and spend time together in the community.
It runs from 10am to 3.30pm at Calne Town Hall.
History Talk At Bowood – Saturday 19th September
Bowood is hosting a history talk on Saturday with Dr Lizzie Rogers, looking at 1776: Secrets, Spies and the American Revolution.
The talk will explore the stories and hidden history surrounding American Independence.
Bells, Vicars And Great Stories – Saturday 19th September
St Martin’s Church, Bremhill. It’s a Heritage Open Day exploring 800 years of the parish, so this is a good genuinely local one rather than just another Chippenham event.
Monthly Metal Night – Sunday 20th September
The Ruze is back with its monthly metal night on Sunday, featuring Mould, Redshift and Manifesting Yesterday.
The event is aimed at over-16s, with advance tickets priced at £8 and tickets on the door at £13. The poster gives 5pm as the doors and bar opening time.
Little Cup Of Vintage Pop-Up Tea Room – Sunday 20th September
Over in Compton Bassett, the Little Cup of Vintage pop-up tea room is taking over the village hall on Sunday.
Running from 11am to 2pm, it promises homemade cakes and sweet treats, vintage china and a 1940s-inspired menu, with dairy-free, gluten-free and vegetarian options available.
The September Social And Wedding Showcase At Bowood – Sunday 20th September
There are two events at Bowood on Sunday, with The September Social offering a day centred around shopping, music and spa experiences, while the Wedding Showcase will give couples the chance to meet local wedding suppliers and see the venue dressed for the occasion.
A number of regular community events are also taking place across the town throughout the week.
