Whether you're looking for live music, a family day out or something a little different, there's plenty happening in and around Calne this weekend. From karaoke nights and country music to astronomy, classic cars and outdoor theatre, here's our pick of some of the highlights.
Karaoke Night at The Wheatsheaf
Start the weekend with a song at The Wheatsheaf in Calne, where Friday night's karaoke gets underway from 8pm. Whether you're taking to the microphone or simply enjoying the entertainment, everyone is welcome for an evening of music and fun.
Karaoke Night at The Dog House
The Dog House Tap Room on Maundrell Road is also hosting karaoke on Friday evening, starting from 9pm. Visitors are invited to sing their favourite songs or simply enjoy the atmosphere with friends.
Astronomy Day at Chippenham Museum
Families can blast off on a journey through the Solar System at Chippenham Museum on Saturday during a free day of space-themed activities. Visitors can enjoy astronomy-inspired crafts throughout the day, while children aged six and over can also take part in one of two free workshops led by Paul Hill, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and co-host of the Awesome Astronomy podcast. Craft activities run from 10.30am to 3.30pm, with workshops taking place from 10.30am to 11.30am and 2pm to 3pm. Workshop places must be booked in advance and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Monthly Guided Dog Walk in Lacock
Dog owners are invited to join the Monthly Guided Dog Walk from The Rising Sun in Lacock on Saturday morning. Meet at the pub from 10am for complimentary tea, coffee and bacon rolls before setting off at 10.30am for a guided walk through the surrounding countryside. The walk lasts around an hour, with participants returning to the pub in time for lunch or a well-earned drink. Everyone is welcome, with or without a dog, although organisers advise suitable footwear is essential and dogs should be kept under control around livestock. No booking is required.
The Great Gatsby at Bowood
Step back into the glamour of the Roaring Twenties on Saturday as The Great Gatsby comes to Bowood House & Gardens. Performed by This Is My Theatre, the open-air production brings F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel to life with live music and a talented cast. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, blanket or chairs and, for those wanting to embrace the occasion, 1920s dress is welcome. Gates open at 6.30pm, with the performance running from 7pm to 8.50pm.
The Dead Reds at The Ruze
The Ruze in Chippenham welcomes blues-rock band The Dead Reds, joined by John Fairhurst, on Friday evening. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm, with advance tickets available for £18.
Country Music Festival
LPB Fitness Gym is hosting a Country Music Festival on Saturday from 2pm until 11pm. The family-friendly event will feature live country and rock music, food, drinks, face painting, hair braiding, bucking bronco rides and more. Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for children, and organisers say everyone is welcome – you don't need to be a gym member to attend.
Driven Cars & Coffee
Car enthusiasts are invited to the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum on Sunday morning for Driven Cars & Coffee. Running from 9.30am, the relaxed gathering welcomes owners of classic, vintage, modern classic and enthusiast vehicles, as well as anyone who simply enjoys looking around the cars. Hot and cold refreshments will be available throughout the morning.
Horizon Demise at The Ruze
Metal fans can head to The Ruze on Sunday as Horizon Demise headline an evening of live music, supported by These Foundations. Doors open at 6.30pm, with tickets priced at £6 in advance or £10 on the door.
