From Calneval of Colour filling the town centre with music, performers and family fun to Armed Forces Day celebrations, live music, open gardens and community events, there's plenty happening across Calne and the surrounding area this weekend.
Whether you're looking for something to keep the children entertained, enjoy a day out with friends or simply make the most of the sunshine, here's our pick of what's on across Saturday and Sunday.
Live Music at The Ruzz – Friday
The Ruzz in Chippenham is taking part in the nationwide Everywhere at Once music event on Friday evening, with headliners Mother Vulture joined by Echo Culture and All Ears Avow. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm, with advance tickets priced at £18 or £23 on the door. The event is part of a UK-wide celebration of grassroots live music, featuring more than 1,000 gigs across over 400 venues.
Calneval of Colour – Saturday
Unfortunately, Calne Town Council have announced the Calne Summer Festival and Calneval of Colour have been cancelled due to a lack of marshals needed to hold the event safely. However, there will be free circus skills sessions on The Green from 2.30pm to 5pm, where all ages can have a go at juggling, plate spinning, hula hoops and other circus activities, while St Mary's Church will be hosting its ever-popular Teddy Bear Parachute Jump from 12.30pm to 3pm, with the final jump at 2.30pm. Families can bring a teddy along to take the leap from the church tower, with refreshments available inside the church.
The Love Calne Market will also be taking place in Phelps Parade, bringing together local traders, food and handmade gifts.
REME Museum Extravaganza – Saturday
The REME Museum at Lyneham is celebrating Armed Forces Day with its annual Extravaganza on Saturday. Visitors can enjoy military displays and equipment, explore historic recovery vehicles, meet local REME units and even climb inside an Apache helicopter. There will also be summer fete games, a bouncy castle, local stalls, a prize raffle and plenty of family-friendly activities taking place across the museum grounds, making it a great day out for all ages.
Calne Social Chess Club – Sunday
Whether you're a seasoned player or have never played before, everyone is welcome at the Calne Social Chess Club's afternoon at Calne Pocket Park on Sunday. Running from 2pm to 3.30pm alongside the Pop Up Café, the free event offers a relaxed chance to play a game of chess, meet new people and learn the basics if you're new to the game. The Pocket Park is on The Pippin, opposite Sainsbury's.
Hilmarton School 175th Anniversary Open Day – Sunday
Hilmarton Primary School is celebrating its 175th anniversary with a special open day on Sunday from 10am to 12pm. Visitors can take a look around the school, learn about its history and see how it has changed over the years. Entry is free and there's no need to book. Afterwards, families are invited to enjoy a history trail around the village or bring a picnic to enjoy on the school field.
Marlborough Open Gardens – Sunday
Take a stroll through some of Marlborough's beautiful private gardens on Sunday as the popular Marlborough Open Gardens returns. Running from 1pm to 5pm, the event offers the chance to explore the town's historic streets while supporting The Merchant's House. Tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the day, with proceeds helping to fund the care and restoration of the historic building.
