There’s plenty going on in and around Calne this Bank Holiday weekend, with live music, family activities, classic vehicles, outdoor events and plenty of ways to make the most of the long weekend. From the Dauntsey Festival of Transport and Country Show and the chance to explore the normally deserted village of Imber to live music, a psychic fayre and family activities closer to home, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.
Cocklebury Versus Chippenham Cavaliers - Friday 28th August
Chippenham Rugby Club will host a special family fete and rugby fundraiser on Friday, 28th August, raising money for Dorothy House and Chippenham Rugby Club. The event gets underway at 5pm with family games including hook-a-duck, coconut shy and garden games, followed by a free children’s picnic from 5.30pm. At 6.30pm, Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes will take on the Chippenham Cavaliers in a mixed ability rugby match, with live music and a raffle from 7.30pm onwards. Food will be provided by Tom Dunn’s Black and White, and the event is open to families and the wider community. Half of the money raised will go to Dorothy House in memory of the mother of one of the Cavaliers players, with the other half supporting Chippenham Rugby Club and its inclusive rugby programme
MOJO 60s to 90s Soul & Funk Covers at The Ruze - Friday 28th August
Live music comes to The Ruze in Chippenham on Friday, 28th August, with MOJO performing soul and funk covers spanning the 1960s through to the 1990s. The band promises an evening of timeless classics and feel-good anthems, with doors and the bar opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are £10.
New Moon Psychic and Spiritual Fayre - Saturday 29th August
Calne Town Hall will host the New Moon Psychic and Spiritual Fayre on Saturday, 29th August, from 11am to 4pm. The event will feature a range of stalls offering healing, massage, mediumship and tarot and oracle card readings, alongside jewellery, crystals and homemade crafts. The fayre offers visitors the chance to browse the stalls and try something different in the town centre.
Ibiza Old & New at The Ruze - Saturday 29th August
The Ruze in Chippenham will be bringing Ibiza vibes to the town on Saturday, 29th August, with an Ibiza Old & New DJ night featuring a live sax player. The event runs from 7pm until 11pm and is aimed at over-18s, with tickets priced at £6.
Summer Adventures: Mini Rovers Driving at Bowood - Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August
Children can get behind the wheel of their own mini Land Rover at Bowood House & Gardens this weekend as part of its Summer Adventures programme. The Mini Rovers are fully electric and will give youngsters the chance to tackle an off-road obstacle course while learning how to control the vehicle with help from a trained instructor. Children must be supervised by a parent or accompanying adult, who can watch or take part with them. Spaces are limited and booking is advised.
Dauntsey Festival of Transport & Country Show - Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August
The Dauntsey Festival of Transport & Country Show returns to Good Mondays Farm Showground over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with this year’s event promising even more family entertainment, live attractions and a festival atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of classic and vintage vehicles alongside country crafts, animals, live music, food and drink and activities for all ages. The show runs across Saturday and Sunday, with the main event taking place from 10am to 5pm and evening entertainment continuing from 6pm until 10pm. The annual not-for-profit event also raises money for a range of charities and community projects, with support from visitors, exhibitors, traders and sponsors helping to fund donations each year.
Talbot Fest 2026 - Sunday 30th August
The Talbot Inn in Quemerford will host Talbot Fest on Sunday, 30th August, with live music from nine bands on an outdoor stage. The event runs from 1pm until 11pm and will also feature an outdoor bar, burger van, face painting and outdoor seating, with children welcome. Entry is free.
Calne Social Chess Club - Sunday 30th August
The Calne Social Chess Club will be holding its monthly afternoon at the Pocket Park on Sunday, 30th August. The session runs from 2pm to 3.30pm and is open to everyone, including anyone who has never played before, with the organisers offering to teach newcomers. The Pocket Park is located on The Pippin opposite Sainsbury’s, and the afternoon will also include a pop-up café.
Imber Open Days - Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August
The normally deserted village of Imber will once again be open to visitors over the August Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday, 29th August to Monday, 31st August. Imber was evacuated in 1943 to allow the village to be used for military training and has remained uninhabited ever since. Visitors can explore the village and visit St Giles’ Church, which will be open from 11am to 4pm each day. Entry is free and there is no need to book, with parking available in Imber village. Dates and access arrangements can change, so visitors are advised to check the latest information before travelling.
