We all know mums go to Iceland, but this Mother's Day, the supermarket giant is requesting they don't !

The frozen food supermarket took to social media this week to 'ban' mums from the store in order to give them all a well-deserved day off .

The post reads: 'NO MUMS ALLOWED THIS SUNDAY.  It's a fact that mums go to Iceland. But, for one day only, on Sunday 10th March, we're asking they don't go to Iceland.

Sunday 10th March is Mother’s Day and we don’t want any mums visiting our Iceland or The Food Warehouse stores. Instead we want those icons that should be celebrated on Sunday to put their feet up.

'Having said that, if you need some emergency Yorkshire puddings, you've ran out of toilet roll, or you want to treat yourself to a tub of ice cream, we'll let you in for a couple of minutes…'

Richard Walker, Executive Chairman of Iceland Foods, said: "We know how important mums are and we know that mums shop at Iceland.

"But this Mother’s Day, for one day only, we're asking they don't. We're asking millions of mums not to shop at The Food Warehouse or Iceland this Sunday.

"Send your loved ones instead, or alternatively put it off until Monday."

Although ideally, they would like all mums to have a day off, they have acknowledged it isn't always possible and if a visit is necessary, of course, they would be welcomed into store. Richard added:  "Despite us wanting mums to enjoy their day and not shop with us for once, we realise there are some circumstances where some will have to shop with us.

"For those incredible mothering figures, we'll always welcome you with open arms. As ever, if you need anything from our Iceland or Food Warehouse stores, we'll be open as usual for you."
