Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold medallist Chris Hunt Skelley MBE has joined Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity as an ambassador, following in the footsteps of his wife Louise.
Chris, who has competed for Great Britain at the highest level of judo, said he was “incredibly proud” to take on the new role.
Chris experienced difficulties with his vision from a young age and was diagnosed with oculocutaneous albinism at the age of 19.
He went on to enjoy a highly successful career in judo, winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and bronze at Paris 2024.
After retiring from the sport in 2025, Chris has gone on to work as a coach, mentor and motivational speaker, using his experiences to promote inclusion and accessibility and to encourage others to achieve their potential.
Speaking about becoming an ambassador, Chris said the charity's work was particularly important to him and his wife Louise, who is also an ambassador. “Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity provides a vital, lifesaving service across our local communities, helping people at some of the most critical moments of their lives.”
Chris said that he and Louise had “personal experience with just how brilliant the Charity is at the most difficult moments”, making the opportunity to support its work particularly meaningful.
He added that his role would involve helping to raise awareness, support fundraising and champion the team behind the service. “It’s an opportunity to give something back to my local community and help ensure this lifesaving service can continue to be there when people need it most.”
Barbara Gray, chief executive at Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity, said Chris had already supported the charity at events in the community alongside Louise.
She said his sporting achievements, mentoring and public speaking, together with his commitment to supporting local communities, made becoming an ambassador a natural decision. “We are delighted to have him on board. We very much look forward to working with him.”
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity relies entirely on the generosity of local communities to continue its work, providing critical care by land and air for up to 19 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As an ambassador, Chris will help raise awareness of the charity's work and encourage people across the community to support its lifesaving service.
