A 13-year-old boy has died following a serious rtc on the M4 yesterday evening.
The collision happened at around 8pm on Saturday (18 July) between junctions 16 and 17 and involved a Toyota RAV4 and a Renault van.
The boy was a passenger in the Toyota. A woman, who was also travelling in the vehicle, remains in hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were not seriously injured.
Wiltshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the teenager at this incredibly difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected."
Emergency services, including Wiltshire Police, the ambulance service and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene.
Firefighters from Westlea, Swindon and Stratton used hydraulic rescue equipment to free one casualty from the Toyota before handing them into the care of the ambulance service.
The collision led to the closure of both carriageways of the M4 between junctions 16 and 17. The eastbound carriageway reopened later on Saturday evening, while the westbound carriageway remained closed overnight to allow specialist collision investigators to examine the scene and recover the vehicles.
The motorway fully reopened at around 9.30am this morning.
Wiltshire Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
