POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the Tesco store in Lyneham was raided in the early hours of this morning (24th Aug).

Just after 2am this morning suspects wearing balaclavas, reversed up to the front of the shop on Calne Road, in a VW Golf.

They then caused a lot of damage to the front of the store as they attempted to break into the rear of the cashpoint.

A police spokesperson said: "The white VW Golf with reg NJ18 WFG (believed to be a false or changed plate) is described to have damage over the offside rear wheel arch.

"It is believed that three suspects wearing black gloves and balaclavas exited the vehicle and used several tools including a crow bar to access the premises. Significant damage was caused to the front of the premises and the suspects attempted to break into the rear of an ATM before leaving prior to police arriving.

If you saw anything suspicious, recognise the car or number plate or can help with our enquiries, please contact us on 101 quoting reference 54230089269."
