A 34-year-old man has been charged with drink driving and speeding after being caught traveling at a dangerously high speed on the M4 motorway in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Nerijus Kavaliunas, of Borodin Close in Basingstoke, was recorded driving his Volkswagen Polo at 96 miles per hour just after 2am on 1st January.
Police officers recorded the Polo travelling at a speed of 96mph, they stopped the vehicle and conducted a breath test on the driver.
Kavaliunas failed the initial breath test, registering 170 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - over four times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
In custody, Kavaliunas's breath test reading was 161 micrograms, leading to charges of both drink driving and speeding.
Kavaliunas has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Swindon Magistrates' Court today, 2nd January.
