A man’s body has been recovered from the River Avon in Chippenham following a major emergency response in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 31st March.
Police were called to the Town Bridge area at around 2.40am this morning, following concerns for the welfare of a person.

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Search and Rescue and specialist underwater search teams from Avon and Somerset Police, attended the scene and have been carrying out searches of the river and surrounding area.
A significant response remained in place throughout the morning as crews worked to locate the missing person.
Wiltshire Police have now confirmed that a man’s body has been recovered from the river.
In a statement, Chippenham Police said: “We are saddened to confirm that the body of a man was recovered from the River Avon in Chippenham this morning.”
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Police also confirmed that: “We have made a self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is mandatory following prior contact with police.”
