A man has admitted a string of offences after a police pursuit from Chippenham to Lacock ended in a crash which left a 14-year-old girl seriously injured.

Patrick McCann, 34, of Walnut Avenue, Hillingdon, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday 20th March, where he pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit, driving whilst disqualified and escaping lawful custody.

The charges relate to an incident on Sunday 1st February, when officers spotted a suspected stolen vehicle in Chippenham.

A pursuit followed towards Lacock before the offending vehicle collided with a Volkswagen Transporter on the A350.

One of the occupants of the Transporter, a 14-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital.

McCann had previously appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 3rd February, when he was charged in connection with the incident and remanded in custody.

He has now been remanded in custody until he is sentenced on Friday 29th May.
