Drivers and pedestrians using a busy Chippenham junction will face temporary traffic management from 26th October while Wiltshire Council carries out improvements to the traffic signals.
The work is taking place at the junction of Langley Road, New Road, Park Lane, Malmesbury Road and Foundry Lane and is expected to take around five days to complete.
The changes follow concerns raised by residents and local councillors about safety at the junction. A review identified problems with vehicles turning right from Park Lane into Foundry Lane, as well as illegal U-turns from Park Lane into New Road.
The improvements will introduce a revised signal arrangement, including a dedicated signal stage for vehicles travelling from Park Lane. Wiltshire Council says the changes are intended to reduce conflicting movements between vehicles, improve conditions for pedestrians crossing New Road and make the signals clearer for motorists.
Temporary traffic signals and pedestrian crossing facilities will be in place while the work is carried out.
Wiltshire Council Director of Assets, Highways and Transport David Bullock said the improvements were being carried out in response to concerns raised locally.
He said the changes would help reduce conflict between vehicles and pedestrians and improve safety for people travelling through the junction.
The council has scheduled the work during the October half-term, saying this is intended to reduce the impact on local journeys.
The works are expected to be completed within around five days.
